Experience and Rates
The realm’s base pace, your personal XP multiplier, reputation gains, and what happens to quest XP at the level cap.
Status: LIVE — individual XP control is enabled from 0.1x to 5x. The realm default is 1x. Reputation is 2x. Disabled: the legacy dynamic XP system.
At a glance
- Base experience: 1x for kills, quests, exploration, and pets.
- Personal XP: each character can set 0.1x–5x with
.xp set. - Default: 1x.
- Reputation: 2x for normal gains, low-level kills, and low-level quests.
- Level cap: 80.
- Dynamic XP: present but switched off. Your chosen rate stays where you set it.
- Quest XP at the cap: at level 60 before Outland and level 70 before Northrend, quest XP is paid as gold.
- Gathering XP: very small, and only for Mining, Herbalism, and Fishing. See 07 — Professions and gathering.
- Oath of Slow and Steady: locks your effective XP to 1x and reduces the final campaign award to 33%.
- No XP NPC: all control is through chat commands and the XP bar addon.
How to use
- Type
.xp viewto see your current personal rate. - Type
.xp set 3to level at 3x. The allowed range is 0.1–5. - Type
.xp defaultto return to the realm default, 1x. - Type

NPC references
No custom NPC controls XP. The relevant NPCs are the level-60 boost NPCs in the starter zones, which set your level and progression stage rather than your XP rate. See 02 — Starting experience.

| Kills | 1x base, multiplied by your personal rate |
| Quests | 1x base, multiplied by your personal rate |
| Exploration | 1x base |
| Pets | 1x base |
| Reputation | 2x, separate from XP |
| Mining / Herbalism | Very small profession XP |
| Fishing | Smaller profession XP |
| Skinning | None |
| Crafting professions | None |
| Quest XP at 60 before Outland | Paid as gold |
| Quest XP at 70 before Northrend | Paid as gold |
Quest gold at the level cap
While you are still inside an expansion’s progression, quests at that expansion’s level cap pay gold instead of experience:
- Level 60, before stage 8: quest XP is converted to gold.
- Level 70, before stage 13: quest XP is converted to gold.
This is deliberate. It lets you keep questing for reputation, gear, and story without wasting the quest’s experience value. Once you pass the expansion’s final progression stage, the conversion no longer applies.
Oaths and XP
- Slow and Steady forces an effective 1x rate and blocks
.xp setwhile active. - Your saved personal rate is not overwritten. It resumes when the Oath ends.
- The Oath’s final campaign award is reduced to 33% of the normal value.
- Other Oaths do not change your XP rate, but their restrictions can change how you level. See 10 — Oaths.
Tips
- Use 1x for your first character. The content is tuned around the base pace, and 1x keeps dungeon and quest rewards relevant.
- Use 3x–5x for alts. You have already seen the content; there is no need to repeat every kill at 1x.
- Do not set 5x and then complain about outleveling a zone. Lower the rate before you start the zone.
.xp disableis not the same as.xp set 0. It stops XP entirely; the minimum rate is 0.1x.- Reputation is already 2x. Do not expect
.xpto change it. - Do not abandon level-60 or level-70 quests for “wasted XP.” They pay gold while you are at the cap in that expansion.
- Gathering is not a leveling strategy. The XP is a small bonus.
- Use the XP bar addon if you keep forgetting your rate.
/setxpbaris the quick check. - Slow and Steady is a commitment. You cannot raise the rate until the campaign is finished.

Admin note
Live config: IndividualXp.Enabled=true, IndividualXp.MaxXPRate=5, IndividualXp.DefaultXPRate=1, IndividualXp.AnnounceRatesOnLogin=true. Core rates: Rate.XP.Kill=1, Rate.XP.Quest=1, Rate.XP.Explore=1, Rate.XP.Pet=1, Rate.Reputation.Gain=2, Rate.Reputation.LowLevel.Kill=2, Rate.Reputation.LowLevel.Quest=2, MaxPlayerLevel=80. Dynamic XP is present but off: Dynamic.XP.Rate=0. Quest-gold conversion is controlled by IndividualProgression.QuestMoneyAtLevelCap=1. Slow and Steady is enforced by mod-leveling-oaths, which both normalizes the effective rate to 1x and blocks .xp set while active; its final award multiplier is 0.33.
