Class Changes

From the Ashes moves many signature class abilities earlier, changes several talent and spell rules, and adds custom Death Knight, Druid, Shaman, Hunter, Warrior, and Undead Paladin tools.

Status: LIVE — class changes are part of the live spell and trainer data. Some are trainer abilities, some are talent changes, and some are custom spells. None are free; you still train or talent into them.

At a glance

  • Early unlocks: key abilities now arrive at 20, 30, 40, and 50 instead of their original later levels.
  • Level-60 toolkit: 51 selected first-rank/unranked abilities that were gated above 60 are now trainable at 60.
  • Army of the Dead: moved to level 70.
  • Trainer prerequisites and prices still apply. You are not granted the whole spellbook.
  • Talent-granted abilities still require talents. A trainer change does not bypass the talent tree.
  • NPCBots use many of the same spell changes where the ability is part of their rotation.
  • Higher ranks continue at 70 and 80. The early unlock changes when the first rank appears, not the entire rank chain.
  • No class-change NPC and no player respec command. Use your class trainer and the normal talent UI.

How to use

  1. Visit your class trainer every few levels. Early class changes add abilities at 20, 30, 40, and 50.
  2. Check the trainer again at 60 for the expanded toolkit, and at 70 for Army of the Dead and higher ranks.
  3. Use Rakka (601061) in Shattrath if you want class, profession, weapon, riding, and pet training in one place.
  4. Read the spellbook tooltip. Several abilities now have revised behavior, not just a lower level.
  5. For talent abilities, open the talent pane. The trainer cannot give you a talent you have not selected.
  6. If you boosted to 60, visit a trainer immediately. The boost raises your level; it does not teach every spell.
  7. Re-check your action bars after a major patch or trainer pass. New ranks can replace old buttons.
  8. Do not use .learn as a player. That is a staff command. If a trainer is missing a spell, report it.

  • Bear Swipe ranks 1–3 train at 16, 24, and 34.

Class-specific changes

Warrior

  • Battle Shout and Commanding Shout last 30 minutes at base.
  • Commanding Shout is available at 20.
  • Booming Voice and shout glyphs still modify the new base duration.
  • Demoralizing Shout and Intimidating Shout are unchanged.

Paladin

  • Undead paladins use custom Warhorse and Charger models. The mount spells, riding skill, speed, and requirements are unchanged.
  • The custom models are display 999120 for the Warhorse and 999121 for the Charger.
  • Divine Steed uses the armored Charger model.
  • Race disguises still select the model from the original race.

Hunter

  • Cobra Shot uses the normal Hunter range: 35 yards base, then 37/39/41 with one, two, or three Hawk Eye ranks.
  • Lone Wolf removes only the minimum range; it does not remove the maximum, facing, or line-of-sight checks.
  • Volley is available at 30.
  • Starter Hunter pets are race-specific. See 02 — Starting experience.

Rogue

  • Rogue receives the level-60 toolkit pass; there is no separate Rogue-only custom ability in this document.
  • Train your normal poisons, finishers, and utility ranks at the class trainer.

Priest

  • Prayer of Mending at 20, Shadow Word: Death at 30, Mind Sear at 40, and Divine Hymn at 50.
  • Divine Hymn is a powerful group cooldown; it is no longer a late-level-only tool.

Shaman

  • Lava Burst at 20.
  • Earthquake replaces Thunderstorm in the Elemental capstone talent slot. Earthquake has ranks at 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80.
  • Thunderstorm remains trainable at 40. It is no longer the capstone itself.
  • Elemental Blast deals 75% of its previous damage, including its tooltip and NPCBot contribution.
  • Fire Nova shares one cooldown across ranks: 15 seconds normally, 12 with the glyph, 11 with two Improved Fire Nova points, and 8 with both.
  • Fire Nova can be cast during another cast and does not trigger the global cooldown.
  • All melee weapon imbues — Flametongue, Frostbrand, Earthliving, Rockbiter — work on every melee weapon type.
  • Windfury works on swords and polearms as well as axes and maces.
  • Shamans use mail at 40 and never plate. The plate proficiency is removed from the Shaman data.

Mage

  • Arcane Blast at 30.
  • Molten Armor rank 1 at 45.
  • Invisibility at 60.
  • Teleports and portals keep their normal level and trainer rules.

Warlock

  • Corruption at 4.
  • Curse of Weakness at 6.
  • Seed of Corruption at 20.
  • Incinerate at 30.
  • Shadowflame at 40.
  • The early abilities use the existing rank chains, coefficients, and glyph behavior.

Druid

  • Lacerate at 20, Lifebloom at 30, and Nourish at 40.
  • Stampeding Roar is trainable at 10 for 3 silver. It gives party and raid members 60% movement speed for 6 seconds within 10 yards, on a 60-second cooldown, with no resource cost.
  • Tooth and Claw is added to Primal Tenacity. Bear and Dire Bear melee hits have a 7/14/20% chance to empower the next Maul, reducing the target’s next melee attack against you by 25%.
  • Bear Swipe applies Thrash, a physical bleed over 12 seconds for about 35% of the Swipe hit. Repeated Swipes refresh it without stacking.
  • Stampeding Roar works in Cat, Bear, and Dire Bear Form.

Death Knight

  • Gorefiend’s Grasp is baseline for every DK race and spec: 30-yard anchor, 20-yard pull radius, 45-second cooldown. It can anchor on an enemy, an ally, or yourself.
  • Gravehook is baseline: 35-yard range, 30-second cooldown, pulls you to the target and stuns for 1 second if the target is stunnable.
  • Wraith Walk is a 4-second aura, +70% speed, 45-second cooldown. It removes roots on activation and ends when you attack or cast. Right-click the buff or use /cancelaura Wraith Walk to cancel it.
  • Scourge Strike: 85% weapon damage, 14% additional Shadow damage per disease, and 20 base Runic Power.
  • Death and Decay is free on all four ranks. It still has its normal cooldown and Runic Power generation.
  • Tier 6 Death Knight sets are available as Blood, Frost, and Unholy eight-piece sets: 931400–931423. They require level 70 and the Death Knight class, use Sunwell token costs, and have custom 2- and 4-piece bonuses.
  • Veyra Dawnforged (931490) stands outside Sunwell and stocks all 24 DK Tier 6 pieces at the existing token costs. The existing token vendors are Tydormu (23381) and Theremis (25976).
  • Tier 4 helm and shoulder particles are softened to 80% brightness. This is cosmetic only.

Level-60 toolkit and Army of the Dead

  • 51 selected class abilities that were previously gated above 60 are now available at 60. This pass covers all ten classes and preserves normal trainer prices, prerequisites, and higher ranks.
  • Army of the Dead is the notable exception: it moves to 70.
  • These are trainer abilities, not free grants. A boosted character still needs to visit a trainer.
  • Some 51-point talent abilities remain talent-granted. The toolkit pass does not remove talent requirements.

Tips

  • Train early and often. Several abilities now arrive at 20–50, and a missed trainer rank can make a level feel much harder.
  • Do not skip the level-60 trainer pass. The 51-ability toolkit is easy to miss after a boost.
  • Army of the Dead is a level-70 tool. Do not expect it at 60.
  • Shamans should read the Elemental tree. Earthquake replaces Thunderstorm in the capstone slot, but Thunderstorm is still trainable at 40.
  • Hunters should re-test Cobra Shot range. It now follows the normal Hunter range and Hawk Eye scaling.
  • Warriors should refresh shouts less often. Battle and Commanding Shout last 30 minutes.
  • Druids should use Stampeding Roar in forms. It is a party/raid movement cooldown, not a self-only sprint.
  • Death Knights should check their spellbook at 55+. Grasp, Gravehook, and Wraith Walk are baseline, not talents.
  • Do not use .learn as a player. If a trainer is missing an ability, report the trainer and level.
  • DK Tier 6 is token gear, not a free set. Bring the correct Sunwell tokens to Veyra or the existing vendors.
  • Undead paladins do not need a new mount spell. The existing Warhorse and Charger spells use the custom models.

Admin note

Class changes are data and trainer changes, not runtime toggles. The main packages are apps/class-progression, apps/class-spell-levels, and apps/class-toolkit-levels; class-specific work is in apps/dk-control-revision2, apps/dk-wraith-scourge, apps/dk-tier6, apps/druid-feral, apps/shaman-spells, apps/shaman-elemental, apps/shaman-weapon-imbues, apps/shaman-windfury-weapons, apps/hunter-cobra-range, apps/warrior-shout-duration, and apps/undead-paladin-mount. The changes depend on matched Spell.dbc, SkillLineAbility.dbc, trainer rows, and selected SQL/DBC overlays; client and server DBCs must match. .learn and .resetspells are staff commands and must not be documented as player tools. Veyra is entry/spawn 931490 outside Sunwell; the DK T6 set IDs are 931400–931423.
