Starting Experience

Where each race begins, who your guide is, what is already in your bags, and how the one-time level-60 boost works.

Status: LIVE — starter zones, guides, starter pets, starter gliders, and the level-60 boost are available. The boost is Limited to one use per character and is blocked by active Oaths.

At a glance

  • 18 playable races, including Goblin, Worgen, High Elf, Void Elf, Dark Iron Dwarf, Broken, Tuskarr, and Eredar.
  • All ten Wrath classes are available to every playable race. The old race/class restrictions do not apply.
  • Every new character starts at level 1 in one of eight starter zones.
  • Each starter zone has an adventure guide who can send you to another friendly starter zone.
  • New characters receive 50 Beginner’s Gliders (981316), class food and water, standard class gear, and 100 copper.
  • Hunters begin with a race-appropriate pet and a random name. Warlocks begin with an Imp.
  • A level-60 Outland boost is available once per character, up to level 59, and grants gear, bags, money, and basic proficiencies.
  • Active Oaths block the boost. If you plan to boost, do it before enrolling.

How to use the starting experience

  1. Find your guide. The guide stands near the starter quest hub in a Tier 1 outfit. Use the tables below to match your race and zone.
  2. Talk to the guide first. The guide offers faction-appropriate travel to the other starter zones. You must have a fresh conversation, be within 8 yards, and be out of combat.
  3. Stay or move. Staying in your native zone gives the normal quest route. Moving lets you level with a friend or try a different starting story.
  4. Check your bags. You should have your class gear, food and water, 100 copper, and 50 gliders. If the gliders are missing, confirm the character is new; the grant is not retroactive.
  5. Train at your class trainer. Early class changes add abilities at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70. See 11 — Class changes.
  6. Claim a Pocket Pals starter with /pals. This is free and permanent. See 16 — Pocket Pals.
  7. Use the boost only when you are sure. It is one per character. It sets your progression stage to 8 and gives you level-60 starter gear, but it does not complete quests, unlock Oaths, or grant reputations.

Custom race facts: High Elves, Void Elves, Worgen, and Broken are Alliance here. Goblins, Dark Iron Dwarves, Tuskarr, and Eredar are Horde here. The server data fixes these factions; a race illusion does not change them.

Guide travel destinations

The guides can send you to the friendly starter zones:

  • Alliance: Northshire Valley, Coldridge Valley, Shadowglen, Ammen Vale.
  • Horde: Valley of Trials, Deathknell, Camp Narache / Red Cloud Mesa, Sunstrider Isle.

Travel is not a portal network. You need a fresh guide conversation, you must be within 8 yards, and you must be out of combat. Moving away, entering combat, or closing the dialogue requires you to start again.

Starter pets

Hunters begin with a pet already tamed. The pet receives a random name. Warlocks begin with a standard Imp.

The level-60 Outland boost

Each starter zone has a boost NPC beside the adventure guide. The boost is designed to move an existing low-level character into Outland without replaying the first 60 levels.

What the boost does

  • Raises the character to level 60.
  • Sets Individual Progression stage 8, which opens Outland content.
  • Grants item level 60–66 gear, maximum uncommon quality.
  • Grants four Netherweave Bags (21841).
  • Grants 50,000 copper (5 gold).
  • Learns basic weapon proficiencies.

Boost rules

  • One boost per character.
  • You must be below level 60.
  • An active Oath blocks the boost.
  • The boost does not grant reputation, complete quests, unlock flying, or advance Oaths.
  • The boost does not lower your level or progression stage.
  • Your class trainer still has spells to teach after the boost. Visit a trainer in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Shattrath.

NPC references

The guide and boost entries are listed in the two tables above. No other custom NPC is required for the starting experience. Class trainers, innkeepers, stable masters, and vendors are standard starter-zone NPCs.

Tips

  • Pick your starting zone for the story, not the power. Every zone leads to the same leveling range, and guides let you move.
  • Do not delete the gliders to free bag space. They are worth more than the one bag slot while you are learning the world.
  • If you are playing a custom race, check your faction before grouping. Dark Iron Dwarves and Eredar are Horde on this realm, even though that is not the usual lore expectation.
  • The boost is not a free 60 for a character you have never played. You still need to learn your class, train spells, and set up action bars.
  • Use the boost before an Oath. Once an Oath is active, the boost NPC will refuse you.
  • The boost stops at stage 8. It does not skip the rest of Individual Progression. See 08 — Individual progression.
  • Hunters should visit a stable master early. Your free pet is a real pet, not a temporary summon.
  • If a guide refuses travel, step closer and reopen the dialogue. Distance and combat are the two usual causes.

Limits and configuration

  • Level cap: 80.
  • Starter zone count: 8.
  • Playable races: 18.
  • Classes per race: all 10 Wrath classes.
  • Starter gliders: 50 per new character; not retroactive.
  • Boost: one per character, below 60, blocked by active Oaths, target 60, stage 8.
  • Boost gear: item level 60–66, maximum uncommon quality, no item sets.
  • Guide travel: faction-appropriate, fresh conversation, 8 yards, out of combat.
  • Custom race faction: fixed by server data; race illusion does not change faction or racials.

Admin note

The starter guides are entries 750002–750009 and the boost NPCs are 732714–732721; both sets are maintained by the starter-adventure-guides and starter-boost-charger apps. The boost uses the live Outland boost module: Boost60Outland.Enable=1, TargetLevel=60, MaxEligibleLevel=0, RequireBelowTargetLevel=1, OnePerCharacter=1, MinItemLevel=60, MaxItemLevel=66, MaxItemQuality=2, BagItem=21841, BagCount=4, StartingMoneyCopper=50000. Starting pets are controlled by mod-starting-pet; the live mapping is in StartingPet.HunterPet.*. The custom race roster and starter positions come from playercreateinfo; do not infer a race’s faction from its lore.
